Japanese Elementary School Kids Being Taught by Robot
March 10, 2009
One primary class in Tokyo is getting taught by a robot called Saya. Saya has 18 motors hidden behind her latex face to express different emotions. She is also capable of speaking different languages, calling out the roll, and setting tasks for her students.
Saya took 15 years to make. The purpose of Saya and robots alike is to replace Japan’s aging population with cheap labor in the workforce. Though this is brings technology to a whole new level, I believe that having a human teacher is much more practical because the teacher can tend to his or her students and express certain emotions that can not be programmed.

So how long do think it will be before Saya comes to the US? It’s a scary thought that robots could actually take the place of real teachers… as if it’s not enough that they have been replacing us (and by us I mean humans) in factories!
