Youtube Can Hurt Your Career

April 21, 2009

A few weeks ago I posted about how youtube can benefit individuals and make no namers famous. However, youtube also has the opposite effect. Youtube can hurt a person’s career.

The free internet website is an online source that allows ANYONE to view and upload any kind of videos, except those with nudity/porn. You can upload videos from your digital camera, camcorder, and even your cell phone. Now a days, who doesn’t have a camera on their cell phone. With that being said, the cell phone can capture the most candid of videos, good and bad.

I’ll use for example the infamous Kramer from Seinfeld, Michael Richards. I know this clip came about two to three years ago, but this is the perfect clip for this scenario. Personally I never got into Seinfeld and was never a fan of that show, I’m more of a Fresh Prince of Bel Air kind of guy. However, I always thought of Michael Richards as a funny genuine guy from the times that I did watch an episode here and there.

I’m sure everyone thought of him the same way, until they saw this clip that was caught by a camera (PLEASE BE ADVISED).

Michael Richards displayed HORRIBLE behavior. There is nothing that can justify the reason for his actions. This is not even funny, this is down right racist. Truthfully I do not care if you were angry, you should never say things of this nature. I’m sure ever since this video surfaced, Richards has not been in Hollywood.

If it wasn’t for youtube, I would have never seen this clip. I barely watch television news and if the news talked about this, I wouldn’t see it. This is one prime example of how youtube can really kill someone’s career. Sorry Michael Richards, you’re not only a washed up actor, you’re a washed up racist jack ass. Also since Michael Richards is associated with Seinfeld, I’m sure that his behavior hurt the shows re-run viewers.
